LinkedIn Profiles for IT Professionals
I leverage my deep experience helping IT professionals advance their careers, my personalized process, and my knowledge of the IT job market to craft best-in-class, keyword-optimized LinkedIn profiles for IT professionals that cut through the noise on the platform—and help you gain the visibility that's critical in today's crowded job market.
In every professional profile I write, I showcase your IT and business skills to create a tailored, unique narrative that tells your unique IT career story—and helps to ensure that your profile will stand out to recruiters ensuring and tech hiring managers.
Why LinkedIn Still Matters for IT Careers
LinkedIn has gotten the reputation for noise—and some of that is justified—so many IT professionals are less active on career platforms, or less willing to invest a lot of time their profiles.
But despite these issues, LinkedIn does still matter for IT careers.
That's because LinkedIn remains the go-to resource for the majority of recruiters—with estimates as high as 90% of all recruiters using the platform to source tech talent.
That means the right IT career branding can enable you to stand out and give recruiters the information they're looking for—by really demonstrating who you are, what you've done, and what you can contribute—all within the tight 2K character limit.
Why Your LinkedIn Profile May Not Be Working
Throughout my career, I've seen many professional profiles—and there are several common pitfalls that appear pretty often.
The first is, simply, a more or less blank profile—just a listing of jobs with dates—with no real content. Now, it's better than nothing, but if there's no content, there's no compelling reason for a recruiter to reach out to you.
The second major problem—related to the first—is a very brief or empty summary section. The LinkedIn profile summary takes the place of a cover letter—so a strong summary should describe who you are as a professional and how you add value.
Another issue—and one that's equally common is IT resumes—is too much tech jargon and too little information on business value and accomplishments.
These all come down to the same thing—not giving the recruiter or tech hiring manager a compelling reason to reach out to you.
But beyond that these sorts of incomplete profiles or overly tech-heavy profiles are unlikely to show up in a search. The search feature is—to be charitable—less than ideal, so it's important to make sure your career profile is keyword-optimized and as searchable as possible.
